Equipment List

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT LIST

This list is provided to help you gather the gear you will need to be a successful pioneer. Because of the weight and space limitations of your handcart design and our attempt to create and authentic pioneer experience, you will be limited in the amount of gear you can bring. You will need the items listed here, but please don’t bring anything else. We cannot take it with us.

EVERYONE SHOULD BRING:

· 1 Large flour sack or duffel bag for your gear (line it with one of the plastic garbage bags and come with all your gear inside)
· 1 warm sleeping bag
· an old blanket (wool, if possible)
· 1 coat (depending on whether predictions)
· 1 good rain poncho
· enough plastic to serve as a ground cloth and shelter from rain
· 1 pair of tennis shoes (they will get wet and dirty)
· 1 pair of shoes to hike in (don’t buy new ones—they will give you blisters. Sturdy running or tennis shoes will work fine if you don’t have hiking shoes.)
· 4 pair sturdy socks
· 2 sets of under clothing
· 2 bandannas
· 1 pie plate and 1 large spoon
· 1 tin cup
· 1 small hand towel and comb or brush
· 1 toothbrush
· 5 band aids and prescribed medication only
· an old set of scriptures or church magazine
· 2 heavy-duty plastic garbage bags
· chapstick

Men should bring:

2 pair of wool or canvas pants
2 long sleeved shirts
1 western style hat (no baseball or army hats allowed)
1 old tie

Women should bring:

2 mid-calf length long sleeved dresses
1 or 2 bonnets
1 pair knee length bloomer (can be made out of old pajama bottoms or hospital pants)

1 old suit coat (men) or shawl (women) for Sunday Wear
camera and film
personal journal and pen or pencil
a pocket or sheath knife
insect repellent and sunscreen (nothing with a sunscreen factor less than 10)
a harmonica or other small musical instrument

Please arrive dressed in pioneer clothing. You will be wearing a set of clothing when you arrive, and the other set you will you wear for Sunday. Buy as much of your clothing as possible at second-hand stores. Don’t wear good clothing that you wouldn’t want to subject to heavy use.

Friendly Reminders...

Trek is almost here! A special thanks for everyone in helping with the success of our Pioneer Trek.

  • Make sure your pioneers eats a huge breakfast!
  • Youth are allowed to wear sunglasses. Bring gloves (leather preferably that has been conditioned) to protect your hands while pulling the handcarts.
  • We are camping in the mountains. It may be cool in the evening.

Guests may through special permission attend our youth conference after all our stake youth are accounted for and when they receive approval from the Trek Youth Conference Chairman. They will need to be interviewed by your Bishop and also complete the pre-trek walk.

We ask that youth attend the entire conference with no early withdrawals or late comers to be able to experience all that trek has to offer.

All participants will need pioneer clothing. It's advisable to begin now to obtain clothing.
